September 17

This was a major adjustment day. I spent as much time as possible in the babies' room, while also having to go back to my room occasionally to let my nurse take my vitals. I was incredibly emotional and probably cried over half of the day. It is just so hard to watch my children be in discomfort and feel so helpless in being able to comfort them.

Most of the day was spent trying to stabilize the babies with their IV lines and oxygen levels. We had a hard time getting used to all of the sounds in the NICU and will probably always be somewhat jumpy when we start to hear their monitors beeping. Both babies were put on CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) to assist with their breathing. The apparatus covers the majority of their face, which is sad, and makes it look like they're scuba divers. They will probably need to be on this for at least 1-2 weeks.

The highlite of my day was being able to change both of their diapers and take their temperature for the first time :)
