Binky Fairy

The Binky Fairy made a special visit to our house to pick up Tycen and Shaylie's binkies. They are now 2 1/2 years old and we definitely know they are old enough to say 'bye-bye' to their binkies. We've been putting this off for a little while mainly because we wanted to wait until the kids had been well into potty training before making another big change.

We weren't really sure how they'd deal with having no binkies. For a long while they've only had them at naps and bedtime, but it is definitely something they were obsessive about. Shaylie always had to have at least two and ideally three binkies--one for her mouth and one for each hand--or she wasn't happy. Tyce could sleep with just one, but preferred more. Binkies were definitely a source of security for Tyce and Shay, which made it hard to take this away from them. At 2 1/2 years old, though, we knew it was time.

Getting some last sucks in:

Putting all their binkies in an envelope for the Binky Fairy:

Look at those sweet, sad faces :( Up until this point, they were pretty excited with the idea of giving their binkies to the Binky Fairy, who brings them to little babies that need them. I think this is when the reality of it all was starting to set in:

Leaving the envelope outside for the Binky Fairy to pick up during their nap:

After naps, Tyce and Shay found the box they put outside with fairy dust on it:

She wrote them a nice letter, thanking them for giving their binkies to little babies who need them:

She also gave them a special gift:

The first day (nap and bedtime) was a little rough and took longer for them to fall asleep than usual. By the second day, they barely requested their binkies (if at all) and were fine when we reminded them about the binky fairy. And that's about the last we've heard of them :) We're amazed at how quickly they adjusted and it just goes to show how resilient kids are. We're so proud of you, Tyce and Shay! We love you!!
