Big Kid Beds

Tyce and Shay transitioned to 'Big Kid Beds' on July 20, 2011 (2 years, 10 months)!

We put off transitioning their cribs to toddler beds as long as we could mainly because we were afraid they wouldn't stay in their beds like they did their cribs. They've been able to climb in and out of their cribs for probably over a year now, but they were really good about staying in their crib until we came into their room to get them (...with the exception of Tyce climbing out to get books from his bookshelf and then climbing back into his crib, which of course we always pretended like we didn't notice :).

In the past month or so, Tyce has been saying he wants a bed like the ones we see in some of his books (big kid beds). So, we knew the time had come. I have to say, we are beyond impressed with how well they stay in their beds. It's been almost a month since the big transition and they haven't yet escaped before we've come into their room to get them. In the morning, they will lie in their beds and talk to each other (through the wall), yell, sing, be silly, etc. for quite a while without ever attempting to get out of bed! In fact, I've been trying to teach them that they can get out of bed to go to the bathroom in the morning and change their night time undies (pull-ups) and then go back to bed, but they've only done this a hand-full of times. That will be the next big milestone: bedtime potty training. At this point, we are not in any hurry...one thing at a time :)
