Merry Christmas

'For to us a child is born, to us a son is given... And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.'  Isaiah 9:6

We woke up Christmas morning and opened our stockings. Shaylie and Tycen got the same things in their stockings; a harmonica, recorder, Thomas (Tyce) and Percy (Shay) train, a hat and gloves.

After playing with the toys from their stockings, we told the kids to look under the tree and see if Santa brought them any other toys. They were pretty excited to see two new large boxes with their names on them!

Tyce got what he had asked Santa for, a guitar (that also came with a microphone):

Shay got a package that had a bunch of things for her dolls (pack n' play, high chair, bouncy seat, changing pad and car seat):

After we opened presents, we all enjoyed a nice brunch together. My favorite new Christmas family tradition is for me to make a birthday cake for Jesus using a 'dutch babies' recipe that my mom has often made and for us to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Jesus!

After naps, we went over to Papa and Grandma Kathy's house to celebrate Christmas with the Haij Family. Uncle Nick, Aunt Rachael, Cousin Gracie and Uncle Mike and Aunt Lynsey all flew in from California on Christmas day and we were so excited to spend the evening with everyone!

Almost as soon as we got there, Tyce set up his guitar and microphone in the front of the room and put on a little concert for everyone. This boy loves to sing, play instruments and perform and he has great rhythm (this is recognized by a lot of people, not just his biased parents :)...I'm hoping we have the next little Jack Johnson on our hands ;)

After dinner, we opened presents:

We had such a wonderful CHRISTmas! I love this time of year when we can celebrate our savior's birthday and reflect on what is most important in our lives. It is easy to lose sight of this in the midst of all the busyness that the holidays bring, but this year I was able to keep my heart and mind primarily focused on Christ thanks to my amazing toddlers who are eager to learn about why Christmas is such a big deal.

We truly have so much to be thankful for, most of all the relationship we have with Christ all because of his miraculous birth, life, death and resurrection. We hope your Christmas was as special and meaningful as ours!
